Last night we had a lovely winter storm roll in. Since I called in on Monday, I figured I should at least give it another try in getting to work. Well since I'm already walking on thin ice, per say, I figured I would take a camera with me and show them how bad it was. The thing is, I didn't make it to work at all... I did get out of my drive way, I did, get to the curve at the bottom of my hill, and that's about it... I started to go up the hill and just couldn't stop from sliding. Left, then right, then left again, I kept sliding, and couldn't get control at all. So, I'm sure you can guess what happened next, yep, I went home and called work to let them know I can't come in. The response I got from management was this:
Fitting Room: Thank you for calling your **** Wal-Mart, how may I direct your call?
Me: Management please.
Fitting Room: One moment.
[30-60 seconds go by]
Fitting Room: They've told me to take a message, they're busy at the moment.
Me: Umm, okay well, tell them this is **** and I won't be coming in today, the snow is too bad and I can't get over my hill.
Fitting Room: Okay one moment.
[30-60 seconds of hold]
Fitting Room: Management said that if you're on the "Call-In List" that your absence will not be excused and you know the consequences.
Me: "Call-In List"? What is that, I have no way of getting to work, and I'm not walking 8 miles to work.
Fitting Room: I don't know, I'm just the messenger.
Me: Okay well thanks anyhow, have a nice evening.
Fitting Room: Bye bye.
It was at this point that I went outside and took a picture of the road, my driveway, and the exit to the main road. Now I live on a dirt road, when it snows, we're the absolute last to have a snow scraper hit our roads. I suppose I could have called in late, but the forecast for our area is calling for 2-12 inches on top of the already 3 we have, plus the ice and packed snow from the last few days. Therefore, if I went in to work, I would either a) have to leave early to ensure I get home, b) go into work and possibly get stuck until the following day, c) not go in at all and assume the consequences.
Seeing as I don't like to get stuck at Wal-Mart for any reason, other than I need to shop, and furthermore it's worth noting that I just paid off my vehicle in full and a wreck would be pointless, I elected to stay home for a second day. I don't know what may happen to me, but I guarantee that I'll get some heat or at the least lose my job over this. Seeing as I have paid my bills, excluding rent, and everything is paid up, I can go a full month without any needs, and that includes my current, and somewhat nicely cushioned bank account. So should I just up and quit this job, or should I go in and see what they have for me? Only time will tell, but I am surely not going to endanger myself, my wife, and child just to get to work... they can kiss my ass....

Odd behavior
What the hell was I thinking with this name? To be honest, I have no idea, nor will I pretend that I do. I do know, however, that I may get fired within the next month or two. My current employment stay is at Wal-Mart and my so called managers are such asses that there no end to their uncharitable ways. We've gotten a lot of snow lately and are unable to drive to work due to the ice, therefore I was instructed by my lovely managers to call the Call-In line should I not be able to make it to work. So I called in this morning and got my "confirmation number" and the automated system transferred me to the Wal-Mart I work at. To give you an idea, here's how the call goes this morning:
Me: Hey, can I speak to a member of management.
Fitting Room: Sure thing, one moment.
[RINGING]
Manager I: Hello this is ****** how can I help you?
Me: Hey ****** this is ***** I can't get out of my road this morning, it's still ice.
Manager I: Hang on one second.
Manager II: Hello this is ****** how can I help you?
Me: Hey this is **** I'm going to have to call in today, I can't get out.
Manager II: Well *****(me) I've been told that we can no longer accept call-ins due to weather. This will be unexcused.
Me: Why would it be unexcused? I followed your instructions for a weather call-in?
Manager II: Well it's not my problem, I can't do anything.
Me: Well I'll tell you what, how about I take a picture of my road and send it to the home office along with your name?
The conversation went down hill from there.... Now I wouldn't have been so hot about this situation, but I'm already borderline from being fired from my job due to attendance, previous issues with scheduling that is! This brings me to the issue at hand, I wonder what the hell these managers are thinking, is it miscommunication between themselves? Is it lazyness? Or is it simply the inability to care about your employees? Either way, I don't care anymore, I have since applied to Radio Shack, where I feel more at home, more electronics after all!
